In late August 2016, I spent eight days conducting text excavations at several previously discovered sites with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands. We identified the extent of several large occupations, all likely prehistoric hunting camps. In order to access these sites, we flew in on a small, fixed-wing airplane and camped remotely for the duration of our project.
I joined Dr. Kelly Graf and Dr. Ted Goebel at a remote late Pleistocene hunting camp on McDonald Creek in July and August 2016. Pictured above, Angela Gore and the rest of the crew overcame a series of dreary rainy days with great camp cooking and good humor. We owe our excavation's success to many of the comfort foods found in The Backpacker's Cookbook.
